A Basic Guide to the Seven Main Chakras

The chakras are the seven main energy centers or wheels in the human body. The Chakras are located along the spine starting at the base or root and then run upwards all the way to the crown of the head. Each chakra or 'energy wheel' radiates a certain colour and energy. Balancing of these energy centers leads to well-being.

The first Chakra is the Root Chakra or Muladhara. It is located at perrenium and its color is red. Its issues are survival, stability, and self-sufficiency.

The second Chakra, Svadhisthana is located at the lower abdomen, between the naval and pubic bone. This Chakras colour is orange and its issues are sexuality, creativity, relationships and emotions.

The third Chakra, Manipura is located at the solar plexus, between the naval and bottom of rib the cage. Its colour is yellow and its issues are personal power, self esteem, willfulness and energy.

The fourth Chakra, the heart chakra, Anahata is located at the heart or center of the chest. Its colour is green and its issues are love, compassion, acceptance, and trust.

The fifth Chakra, Vissudha is located at the throat. Its colour is bright blue and its issues are communication, inspiration, expression, and faith.

The sixth Chakra, the third eye chakra or Anja is located between the eyebrows. Its colour is indigo blue and its issues are psychic, emotional and mental intelligence, and intuition.

The seventh Chakra, Sahasrara or the Thousand Petal Lotus Chakra, is located at the crown of the head. Its color is white or violet and its issues are devotion, inspiration, selflessness, and spiritual understanding.
